Axel Hotel, Barcelona

Axel Hotel is right in the thick of things in the slightly gay area of Eixample in Barcelona. I say slightly gay because it is not overtly gay. So it doesn't matter whether you are or are not, it's still a good area to stay in. The Eixample district not only is the most iconic in Barcelona, it’s also the most diverse in terms of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The geometric layout of blocks is the symbol of the sunny and modern Barcelona we know today. Very close to the Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Check out our page on Barcelona here.

Faithful to the concept and style of Axel-design, comfortable, cosmopolitan atmosphere and good value for price. The 105 rooms combine the touch of decoration from Modernism with the warmth and elegance of the Mediterranean.

The beautiful spaces at Axel Hotel Barcelona, have become it the urban meeting point of the heterofriendly and trendy LGBTI scene in the city, offering a unique atmosphere with an environment full of design elements.

This was the view from our room balcony...

So, let me tell you about the Axel Hotel brand and philosophy...Axel Hotels is a hotel chain focusing on the gay community. They have created a free and tolerant society, where diversity and respect are valued. Two men, two women or a man and a woman, any type of customers are equally welcome, without prejudice to their sexual orientation. They don't define AXEL HOTELS as gay, instead, they have created a new term which we love: heterofriendly. They now have hotels in Madrid, Ibiza, Maspalomas (in the Grand Canary Islands) and Berlin (which we have also stayed in).

Axel is designed for the gay audience, but is opened to everyone.

A nice pool area on top of the hotel is a great place to chill out during a warm afternoon.
