Basildene Manor Margaret River

Grand Mecure Basildene Manor has to be one of the best hidden treasures of the southwest of Western Australia.

I grabbed this place off of booking.com for a weekend wedding we were attending down south and also as a surprise for my partner who usually does the accommodation organising. I had never heard of it before, so it was risky. Price was pretty good so I was unsure of what we were actually going to get once we got there. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. I can't believe more people don't know about and talk about this place. It's a hidden gem.

The southwest wine region is about 2.5 hours drive southwest from Perth, so by the time you get there, you're ready for a break and this is the place to do it. You arrive down a driveway at a gorgeous old manor house that has been beautifully restored.

The two nights we stayed at Basildene were fabulous. Even though you're in a house with other people, you still feel like you have your own space, with several common areas you can relax in like this sitting room, complete with fireplace...

...through to the individual bedrooms that peel off as you walk down the main hallway. Once inside your room, it's extremely private and pleasant. Our room even opened to an outdoor private courtyard.

The breakfast area overlooked the rolling hills of the estate and made you feel like you were in Europe.

You can wander throughout the grounds during the day and the views from the breakfast area are just amazing to look at while you have your first, second and third cup of tea over your home cooked breakfast.

We would definitely stay at Basildene Manor again when in Margaret River.

While you're in Western Australia take a flight north to Broome where you will experience WA's 90 Mile Beach, some of the best ocean and beaches you will ever see. Cable Beach Club is set right on the beach in Broome and well worth a visit.
