The Moorings Hotel, Wanaka, New Zealand

Wanaka is one of the most beautiful places that we visited in New Zealand.

Whether you stay here in summer like we did or in winter, it's a good spot and pretty close to the town centre, so most things are within walking distance.

Wanaka, is a resort town on New Zealand's South Island and is set on the southern end of its namesake lake with views of snowcapped mountains. It's the gateway to the Southern Alps' Mount Aspiring National Park, a wilderness of glaciers, beech forests and alpine lakes. Treble Cone and Cardrona ski resorts are near the park. Just outside the town is the outdoor maze and sculpture gallery of Puzzling World.

The Moorings hotel was well located on Wanaka Lake and very close to the heart of the town. It’s easy walking to great restaurants, bars and retail shops.

We didn't like the first room that they put us in as it was a disabled bathroom fit out and water tends to go everywhere when you shower, so we asked if they had any other rooms spare and they moved us to a 2 bedroom apartment (with one bedroom upstairs locked). The apartment also had a lake view

Great lounge area with a wood fire two 2 seater lounges, kitchen, dining table and an upstairs and downstairs bedroom. An outdoor area that had a big market umbrella, outdoor furniture and bbq but the view from the outdoor area of the lake was great.

We loved our stay at Moorings hotel and would only recommend to stay at the apartments. Your hosts, Peter & Jenny Sutherland will ensure your stay is as pleasant, relaxing and rewarding as possible. They can assist you in planning your trip, and have strong local knowledge of many varied activities available throughout the Lake Wanaka region.
