Cardrona, New Zealand

On the road between Queenstown and Wanaka, not only are there many photo opportunities waiting for you, but New Zealand’s oldest pub is also waiting for you in Cardrona. Cardrona is ne of the most popular skiing and mountain biking destinations in New Zealand.

That's how it looks in winter. However, we were there in summer and it still looked pretty good. You must stop and go in though, because it's pretty special inside and then out the back.

Cardrona is a hamlet in the Cardrona Valley, on New Zealand’s South Island. It lies on the Crown Range Road, a steep, mountainous route between Queenstown and Wanaka. To the west, Cardrona Alpine Resort has downhill ski runs and terrain parks. On the valley’s east side are Snow Farm NZ’s cross-country ski trails. The 1860s clapboard Cardrona Hotel, built during the gold-rush era, sits in the hamlet’s centre.
