Found these online and didn't realise its an apartment building. Thought I was checking into a hotel, so it caught me on the day when they called me to arrange check in as I was arriving after 5pm. After verifying who I was, they sent me instructions to access the building when I got there and all went well upon arrival at 9pm. I have to say, they over delivered on price and quality. When I opened the door to the apartment, I was pleasantly surprised.
Seven floors up, I had a great view of the city and a balcony with sliding door access, so I could have fresh air in the one bedroom apartment most of the time. The noise from The Emerson across the road got a bit loud in the evenings (although they do get everyone inside off their own balcony from 11pm), but the glazing on the windows was amazing and once my door was closed, there was zero noise from over the road.
The apartment was clean and tidy, with full amenities in the bathroom including a combination washer/dryer which was handy as I was staying for four nights so I could put the towels on as I left each day and they'd be dry and fluffy by the time I got back (they even left washing powder sachets). The only issue I had was that the body wash ran out after 2 days (with just one person using it) and as there is no daily apartment servicing, I had to go buy some from Woolies just 50 metres away.
There was a full kitchenette in the apartment as well with fridge, oven and microwave, all crockery and cutlery and even some cooking utensils.
Over all, Akom apartments was a good economical choice, in a great area of Prahran at the top end of Gratton street, Just metres away from Commercial Road and a 2 minute walk to Greville Street's cafes and Chapel Street. I would definitely stay there again.
If you do ever stay there, check out Cool Hunting on the corner of Commercial Road and Gratton Street. It has some amazing gear in there.
