Anantara Dhigu, Maldives

Dhigu is the home of Anantara Resort & Spa in the Maldives. This place is beautiful. By the way, it's pronounced "Mal-deeves", not "Mal-dives".

The only way you get there is by boat (just like everywhere else in The Maldives), after a plane ride from Colombo to Male. But once on the island, it’s gorgeous. The over water bunglaows are beautifully maintained and you just walk down your very own steps into the warm Indian Ocean.

Of course the only places you can eat on the island belong to Anantara, but there are a few choices, so don’t panic. Chances are, you won’t be here for more than a few days anyway before moving to another island, or before your wallet runs out.

Plenty of places to dine, including Fushi Cafe, Fuddan Fusion Grill, Terrazzo, Aqua, Dining By Design, Baan Huraa, 73 Degrees, Dhoni and Geckos.

The spa was awesome. You’ll want to go every day.

WARNING: Don’t go in May as the wind was full on 24/7. It did my head in to the point where I asked to be moved to an island villa in the shelter of the island’s own protected bay on the last day just to get some peace from the howling wind. It was still warm, just a tad windy…constantly. Best time to visit is November to March.

From their website: Dhigufinolhu Island in the South Malé Atoll, is Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa, comprising of some of the most spacious luxury villas in Maldives, some with private plunge pools and just a 35 minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. The tropical lagoon setting creates a Maldivian paradise of breathtaking natural wonders, where the warmest heartfelt welcome leads to journeys that can be deeply relaxing or truly invigorating.

From the moment you arrive, peer into the crystal waters below the jetty of our Maldives resort at puffer fish, sting rays and baby reef sharks. Take part in an array of water sports including diving, snorkelling, surfing and island hopping.

Anantara Dhigu’s evocative location is matched by a tranquil island design approach that feels like home away from home while providing you with excellent facilities. Play tennis, hit the gym and swim in the infinity edge pool, or simply unwind at Anantara Spa with a range of renowned signature treatments. Discover your own paradise at Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa.”

110 bungalows and over water villas.
