Cinnamon Red Hotel, Colombo

We arrived at the hotel at 3am after flying for 16hrs. The hotel staff - Ryan was very friendly and helpful considering that it was middle of the morning (3am).

I do have an issue with hotels that take too long to get you into the room though. There are way too many of them going "tap tap tappet tap" on their keyboard for way too long, when you have already pre-booked your room, haven't asked for anything extra as you check in and have already pre-paid at least half of the stay or more.

What are they actually doing on that keyboard?!?

Are you putting the booking in from scratch?

Just put me in the room!

It's 3am FFS!

Why can't you do all your happy tap tap stuff AFTER you've put me in my room?

(this is my inner voice yelling as he tap tap taps away - my outside voice is saying "Good thanks".

The hotel itself was excellent. We had no complaints or issues with our stay. We were located on the 16th floor with full ocean views (to be honest there are not many rooms with an ocean view - most have partial obstructed views. This was our view...

The room was a standard room however the size of the room was generous, large comfortable king bed with funky art/bedhead (as per above) and very functional room with a desk and relaxation chair. The wardrobe was small, however for a two day stay, we didn't use it - we just lived out of our suitcases.

The bathroom was small but well laid out with a large walk in shower. Water pressure wasn't great and the water temp kept getting hot on the cold setting. Good size vanity and sink area. The most disappointing or average part of the bathroom was the amenities - just average and we ran out of shower gel. Daily breakfast was buffet style with three live cooking stations, eggs, pancakes or waffles (alternated daily) and a Sri Lankan breakfast dish. The stand out feature of the hotel was the roof top pool on level 26. The pool featured a infinity edge over the city and ocean, a excellent place to chill during the day and sensational to watch the sunset from. There wasn't a lot of sun beds but seemed to be well managed by the pool attendants.

On the other side of the building on the same level was a bar/cafe area outdoors, which we didn't get any time to enjoy. The downside was the pastries which seemed stale each day and the queue for the eggs - Steve didn't even get his one day. The hot buffet selection was good and the scrambled eggs in the buffet were most probably the best I've had in a buffet.

The location is fantastic 800m from the ocean and everything is accessible by a tuk tuk for between 100-300 Rp The only negative about the hotel overall was that the elevators seemed to take ages and were tiny. Not sure all of them were working. Would I stay there again? Yes. The price was good, bed comfortable, location great and the staff were good.
